2020 Young Artists International

String Competition

 

The festival encourages young musicians of ALL skill levels and abilities, from the aspiring novice to the highly-trained and experienced musician. 
​
*Open to instrumentalists who are ages of 4 and 18 years as of December 1, 2020. 
 
*Instrumentation: Violin, Viola, Cello.
 
*The competition will be held according to the following schedule:
   •Date: Saturday, March, 7th 2020
•Time: 3 to 6pm

 
*Location: Front Row Theater

San Ramon, CA 94582

 
*Repertoire: Must have string orchestra accompaniment. 
 
*Accepting the following pieces or similar:
Competitors must play pieces from either the Baroque, Romantic or Classical eras.

 
*Skill levels:
There are categories for you to consider regardless of your skill development:
 
-Violin Solo-
Category A (4-9 years old) - 3 minutes to 5minute limit
Category B (10-15 years old) - 5 minutes to 10minute limit
Category C (16-18 years old) - 8 minutes to 15minute limit

 
-Viola Solo-
Category A (10-15 years old) - 5 minutes to 10 minutes limit
Category B (16-18 years old) - 8 minutes to 15 minutes limit
 
-Cello Solo-
Category A (4-9 years old) - 3 minutes to 5 minutes limit
Category B (10-15 years old) - 5 minutes to 10 minutes limit
Category C (16-18 years old) - 8 minutes to 15 minutes limit

 
*Each contestant’s application must include:
 
•Completed Application Form

•Application materials will be returned only if a self-addressed stamped envelope
is included with the application.

 
•Application Fee: $70 (for application postmarked on or before 2/15/2020)
Late application Fee: $100 (for application postmarked after 2/22/2020)
•A non-refundable entry fee. Make check payable to Tri-Valley KPA

 
*Application Fee Only payable by check and received in the mail.
 
*Deadline:
Regular: February 15, 2020 (postmarked)
Late: February 22, 2020 (postmarked)

 
*Applications should be sent to:

*The 1st place of the competition will perform with the Tri-Valley Youth
Philharmonia on Saturday, May, 30, 2020.

 
*The following awards and certificates will be presented to top performers in each
category:
1st Place: $200 Prize and Certificate, performance 
2nd Place: $100 Prize and Certificate
3rd Place: $50 Prize and Certificate
Honorable Mention: Certificate

•The judge decision is final.  
 
•All judging will be blind.
 
•Judges can stop the music before the end of the piece or ask the participant to start at any point in the piece.
 
•Memorization of the music is not required but is strongly encouraged.
 
•The judges can ask the participant to play some role, so remember the entire
repertoire.

 
•The repertoire must be in original format.  Reordering is not allowed.
 
•After the application is submitted, the repertoire cannot be changed.
 
•The participant must bring the original music that was not copied.
 
•The judge has the right not to declare a winner if the participant does not meet the necessary criteria.
 
•In case of a tie, each winner will share a prize.
 
•Winners of the last 1st place cannot be re-registered in the same age instrument category
