Audition tips for the prospective students:

Posture and bow holding should reflect an approach to the instrument that will allow consistent technical progress and result in accurate intonation

Playing a solo that is too difficult will generally lower an audition score
-
Solos should be performed without accompaniment
-
Sight reading will be selected by the judge(s) at the audition

Basic requirements:
All musicians need to be taking private lessons on their orchestral instrument
Strings:
One major scale and one melodic minor scale of your choice in three octaves. (Ascending and descending)
Prepared solo or etude (max total solo length 3 minutes)
Scales and a prepared piece must be memorized
Woodwinds:
Chromatic scale from your lowest to highest note
Two major scales in two octaves, ascending and descending (see below requirements per instrument): Flute: D major scale slurred and B major scale tongued
Oboe: D major slurred and D flat major tongued
Clarinet: E major scale slurred and G flat major tongued
Bassoon: E flat major slurred and B major scale tongued
Prepared solo or etude (max total solo length 3 minutes)
Scales and a prepared piece must be memorized
Brass:
Chromatic scale from your lowest comfortable note to highest note, ascending and descending.
Play 4 major scales of your choice as quickly as you can with a steady tempo and even rhythm, ascending and descending. Slur 2 major scales and tongue the others. Play with your best tone. Make sure the scales you choose demonstrate your entire range.
